When to Mail Christmas Greetings
The best time to mail Christmas greetings is the week immediately following Thanksgiving. With the Thanksgiving holiday often involving family travel and lots of time in the kitchen, many people choose to prepare their Christmas cards in advance of Thanksgiving and have them prepared for the mailbox on the Monday after Thanksgiving.
For Christmas photo cards, you should prepare your photograph, greeting and place your order far enough in advance to allow for printing and delivery, then give yourself plenty of time to address and stamp your envelopes. The best time to prepare Christmas photo cards is during October, placing your order by the end of October at the latest. Many families find significant savings by doing their photo cards in September or early October, as many stationery retailers offer Christmas discounts to those who buy earlier in the season.
If you mail your cards after December 5, be prepared for delayed delivery as the volume of mail during the final three weeks leading to Christmas is quite heavy. Additionally, many parcels are mailed during this time, slowing the delivery of "regular mail". For best results with your Christmas greetings, plan ahead!
